The PONY Baseball and Softball International Board of Directors has voted to change the age determination date for baseball to April 30 effective for the 2023 baseball season. There will be no loss of eligibility for any participants in the 2023 season, essentially the PONY program will be four months older starting in 2023. Players born in the months of May, June, July, and August will have a choice of whether to stay in their respective age groups or move up into an older age group with their former teammates.
Many leagues in the North Zone have been requesting that PONY go back to this cutoff date for a few years. We are in hopes that this will not only increase our team count but will also attract more tournament teams back into our post season tournaments. PONY is one of the few youth programs that has international teams in their world series. This is a great opportunity for our youth to play against this competition.
For the leagues that have left PONY and would like to come back this year with this change, there will be a 50% discount to franchise your league for the 2023 season. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please let me know.
