Coupe de Bordeaux Pony France Results

The PONY U16 Coupe De Bordeaux event in Nouvelle-Aquitaine took place this past week, spanning from May 27-29. The five teams participating in the tournament were Bordeaux Academy A, Bordeaux Academy B, Jabatos of Huesca (Spain), Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and SBS Academy Gijón (Spain).

Day 1 Recap:

Bordeaux Academy A faced off against familiar Bordeaux Academy B to kick off the week's action. Bordeaux Academy A used their offense to power past Bordeaux Academy B, winning by a lopsided score of 12-0. 

The next contest was just as lopsided as the Jabatos of Huesca used their bats to down Nouvelle-Aquitaine by a final score of 12-0.

Shutouts were abundant for Bordeaux Academy A on day one as they beat SBS Academy with a combination of offensive power and stellar pitching, 10-0.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Bordeaux Academy B looked to rebound after their first game losses. After a high scoring battle, Nouvelle-Aquitaine emerged victorious by a score of 13-7.

In the final game of the day, SBS Academy silenced the Jabatos of Huesca's bats, only allowing three runs. However, SBS Academy's offense fell just short with the Jabatos of Huesca barely edging SBS Academy, 3-2.

Day 2 Recap:

Day two kicked off with Bordeaux Academy A and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Bordeaux Academy A continued their dominance in the tournament with a 16-3 win.

Bordeaux Academy B, who started the tournament 0-2, were looking for their first win as they took on the Jabatos of Huesca but fell short of victory by a 13-2 score.

SBS Academy and Nouvelle-Aquitaine battled hard in a close contest, with SBS Academy gaining the advantage on the scoreboard 4-3. With the loss, Nouvelle-Aquitaine dropped to 1-3.

In a battle of the undefeated, the Jabatos of Huesca edged Bordeaux Academy A 3-2 to remain on top of the rankings with a perfect 4-0. Bordeaux Academy fell to 3-1.

In the nightcap, SBS Academy gained their second win of the tournament over Bordeaux Academy B 17-5, evening their record out to 2-2 while Bordeaux Academy fell to 0-4.

Day 3 Recap:

In the final day of action, second ranked Bordeaux Academy A faced third ranked SBS Academy for a trip to the championship against the Jabatos of Huesca. Bordeaux Academy A gained the advantage early and never looked back, advancing to the championship via a 14-0 win. With the loss, SBS Academy fell into the third place match.

Fourth ranked Nouvelle-Aquitaine took on fifth ranked Bordeaux Academy B with the winner advancing to the third place game. Nouvelle-Aquitaine emerged victorious, earning their spot against SBS Academy for third place. Bordeaux Academy B finished the week 0-5.

In a battle between SBS Academy and Nouvelle-Aquitaine for third place, SBS Academy bested Nouvelle-Aquitaine to earn their spot on the podium. SBS Academy finished the tournament 3-3 while Nouvelle Aquitaine finished 2-4.

The tournament's final match between the first-ranked Jabatos of Huesca and second ranked Bordeaux Academy A was poised to be close just like their day two contest. Bordeaux Academy A, however, had other thoughts. They jumped ahead early and the Jabatos of Huesca had no chance to catch up. Bordeaux Academy A had an offensive explosion en route to their 13-1 upset victory. The Jabatos of Huesca finished the week 4-1. The champions, Bordeaux Academy A, finished the week 5-1.

On day two of the tournament, skills competitions took place and the winners are as followed:

Infield: Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Noah Reix, Dylan Raffier, Arnaud Verhague, Xan Prunier and Arnaud Guengard).
Race: Amaury Cegielski (Bordeaux Academy)
Pitcher : Jorge Quesada (SBS Academy Gijon)
Homerun. : Axel Kurzenne (Bordeaux Academy)

The tournament also recognized individual accolades for performance in the games after the conclusion of the week's activities. The awards are as followed :

Best Hitter : Maxime Olujic (Bordeaux Academy A)
Best Pitcher : Louis Perrois (Bordeaux Academy A)
M.V.P. : Francis Lassaline (Bordeaux Academy A)
