2021 AGE Pinto 8U International Baseball Classic moves to a new site this year!

After 4 years of hosting the PONY 8U AGE (Affordable Gas & Electric) Pinto International Baseball Classic, the Jefferson County Sports Authority has declined to exercise their option to host the 2021 Classic this year. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic the classic was not played in 2020, but JCSA retained their option for 2021. Affordable Gas & Electric will still be the corporate sponsor for this event. We would like to thank AGE for their sponsorship of this tournament for all these years. The tournament would not be possible without their continued support. There were other sites that expressed an interest in hosting the tournament this year, but after consulting with Affordable Gas & Electric the 2021 Baseball Classic will move to Herrin, Illinois. The Herrin Jr. Ball League (HJBL) will be the host for this year’s tournament. The Herrin Jr. Ball League has been a long-time member of PONY Baseball & Softball and has hosted many tournaments for PONY Baseball & Softball

Now in its sixth year, PONY's AGE 8U Pinto International Baseball Classic is the premiere event for 8U baseball teams in the Midwestern United States. International participants have included the 2019 tournament champion Aruba, the Philippines, Dominican Republic, Panama, China, and Indonesia. These teams' participation has created a competitive blend of local and international teams in this exciting pool play and double-elimination tournament. We have also welcomed highly skilled U.S. PONY teams from California, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, as
well. This is an open invitational tournament. We will accept the first 16 teams to register and then will have a waiting list, if needed. The size of the tournament may change depending upon the number of teams that request to play. In addition to a sensational weekend of baseball, teams have been treated to special events like a pool party, fireworks, and a pre-tournament meal for all the coaches and players. All of the Pinto International Baseball Classics have had fun-filled weekends, and we hope you join us in 2021.

The dates are July 8-10, 2021 (Report date: July 7; Sunday, July 11 will be used as a rain day).
The tournament location is the Herrin City Park, Herrin Jr. Ball League Baseball/Softball Complex. (1509 N. 7th Street Herrin, Illinois 62948).

Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of five games. Once pool play is concluded, teams will be seeded and placed in a single elimination round that will result in eight teams being placed in the Championship Bracket and eight teams being placed in the Consolation Bracket. A Champion and Consolation Champion will be determined following the results of those single elimination rounds.

If we have 16 teams as we plan, we will award banners to the first four places in both the consolation bracket as well as the championship bracket. That means that half of 16 teams in the field would receive a banner. This will also be a RING Tournament; all players and coaches on the Championship team will receive a Championship Ring and a team championship trophy thanks to Affordable Gas & Electric.  Awards will be based on the number of teams in the tournament. If we have more than sixteen teams, we will have a waiting list for another pool of four teams.
